Bahrain body tests 2,763 building material samples
More than 2,763 building material samples were inspected in Bahrain during the first quarter of this year.
The Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning managed the inspections, which were implemented by its building materials directorate.
Tests were carried out physically and chemically in directorate’s labs, and the materials inspected included all types of concrete materials and their components such as cement, water, sand, rubble, and improved materials.
Asphalt and its components, such as rubble, bitumen, and improved bloomer were also inspected.
Sand used for construction workwas also tested, as were materials used for finishing purposes, such as tiles and paints.
The directorate regularly sends a specialised team of engineers and technicians to construction sites and concrete and brick companies to take samples of their products.
These samples are tested in the directorate’s labs, which are granted the ISO/IEC17025:2005 certification.
The team also analyses the results of these tests, and issues monthly reports that evaluate the performance of building material factories.
Urgent contact is made with the factories in case any sample does not conform to approved and accredited specifications, with the cause of non-compliance investigated and rectified.
Material testing may also be carried out electronically through the ministry’s portal,BNAreported.
